Phoenix were delighted to be back at St Peter and St Paul’s Church in Harrington on 19 October, as part of the popular Harrington Concerts series.
Performing on six different types of saxophone, from the tiny sopranino to the giant bass sax, the 16 saxophonists delivered a varied programme, including the orchestra’s first performance of Keiron Anderson‘s moving piece ‘Closure’, which was written to reflect the closure of the coal mines. This intricate and atmospheric piece was accompanied by a rendition of a poem of the same name, written by Yorkshire poet Ian McMillan, and read to the audience by Rob Davison.
Benedict Cadbury from Harrington Concerts said: “The orchestra has an impressive repertoire covering a wide range of musical genres, so there was something for everyone. The audience appreciated hearing and seeing the different instruments along with Tony’s great introductions, and thoroughly enjoyed the concert. Congratulations on an excellent performance!”
